GTA 6: A “Criminal Profile” Will Influence How the Story Unfolds
From methodical criminal to violent offender, Rockstar introduces a meter that tracks your methods and could shape the story.

Your Methods Leave a Mark
Rockstar introduces a new mechanic in Edge called “Criminal Profile.” This meter tracks Jason and Lucia’s behavior on a scale ranging from calculating professional to criminal deemed beyond redemption. So it’s not just about counting the crimes committed: how you commit them also matters. Two players could complete similar objectives while shaping different profiles.
Violence Isn’t Always Necessary
During a confrontation, threatening or incapacitating an opponent can sometimes offer an alternative to eliminating them. By contrast, a character who immediately shoots at everything that moves will develop a more brutal reputation. That doesn’t mean every mission will offer a peaceful path. Rockstar does, however, refer to choices that occur often enough to be tracked by a dedicated system.
Narrative Consequences on the Horizon
The most important detail is the promise of a narrative impact. Rockstar says this profile will influence how Jason and Lucia’s story unfolds. It remains to be seen what form that will take: reactions from certain characters, alternate scenes, or different situations depending on the context. The studio hasn’t provided an exhaustive list, and this mechanic shouldn’t be mistaken for confirmation of multiple endings.
Two Systems Not to Confuse
The Criminal Profile is not the same as the description the police are looking for. The latter depends on the evidence available when a crime is committed; the former describes a broader behavioral trajectory. Their coexistence could give decisions made in GTA 6 consequences that go beyond the next police chase.
