Jason Duval: Military Service, Drug Trafficking, and Life in the Keys—His Past Explained

A young man already shaped by shady dealings

Rockstar portrays Jason Duval as someone who grew up around petty scams and criminals. To get away from a turbulent adolescence, he spends some time in the army. That detour doesn't solve everything, though: he ends up in the Leonida Keys, where he works for local drug traffickers. The character is thus caught between a desire to settle down and an environment he struggles to escape.

The Keys: more than just a vacation backdrop

Brian Heder's biography offers a better understanding of Jason's day-to-day life. The experienced drug trafficker lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties, provided he helps with local intimidation operations. Jason isn't simply a vacationer by the water, then: he already depends on a network of connections that may ask him for favors that are hard to refuse.

What Lucia could change

Rockstar presents Jason's meeting with Lucia as a potentially happy or disastrous turning point. Jason seems to want a more peaceful life, but circumstances keep drawing him back toward crime. This contradiction could fuel the story's tensions, without making assumptions about his decisions or his exact role in every robbery.

One important detail remains unknown: Rockstar has not published a complete timeline of Jason's time in the army or a list of skills tied to that past. What is certain is that Jason's connections to the drug traffickers in the Keys are part of GTA 6's official backstory.
