Running away won’t always be enough
Wanted stars have been part of GTA history, but Rockstar wants to make police chases easier to understand. In Edge’s exclusive preview, the game features a police “heat” system based on information gathered during a crime. Investigators may learn what you look like, what you’re wearing, which weapon you used or whether you had an accomplice. Witnesses and surveillance cameras can add to your description.
A police file you can see on screen
This information won’t be hidden in some obscure simulation: Edge describes icons that let players understand what the police know. The goal is to turn getting away into a real tactical challenge. You’re not just being chased by a car; you’re also trying to reduce the number of details that could identify you on the street.
Change your behavior to disappear
Getting rid of the identified weapon, changing clothes or temporarily splitting up from your partner can reduce the chance of matching the wanted description. The system doesn’t guarantee immediate immunity, and Edge doesn’t explain all the conditions required to clear a wanted status. However, it gives players several options beyond simply driving faster.
Plan heists differently
Before a heist, your choice of outfit, vehicle and escape route could become more important. A camera pointed at the door or a witness who sees two people fleeing could have consequences. Rockstar is clearly looking to connect crimes with their aftermath: commit the act, then deal with the evidence it leaves behind.
